Job Description

The Account Executive works under the general direction of a Principal, Director, Managing Director, and/or Practice Group Leader on a major global telecommunications client account for Public Strategies. The Account Executive may work directly with the client, assist in the day-to-day management of the account, and help support the efficient and effective utilization of Public Strategies’ resources.  

Responsibilities
  • Conduct media intelligence and/or opposition research and integrate research findings in client’s corporate communications strategy.
  • Participate fully in client team, involving issue tracking and analysis.
  • Perform substantive research, policy and legislation analyses, and writing of public affairs advocacy materials, including news releases, response statements, newsletters, opinion and editorial pieces and background information.
  • Maintain regular contact with client to accommodate and anticipate needs.
  • Build understanding and knowledge of client’s business and competitive environments; apply this info in preparing and presenting strategically focused programs and recommendations.
  • Coordinate/participate in numerous tasks/projects in an organized manner.
  • Facilitate teamwork within account team, coordinate team resources, serve as a mentor to junior staff and create opportunities for junior staff to take on more responsibility.
  • Develop full range of materials including media materials, byline articles, speeches, and client correspondence.
  • Manage internal information dissemination, including preparing drafts and proposals, examining and reporting team progress and organizing materials and information for client as needed.
Qualifications
  • College degree or equivalent preferred.
  • At least 1-3 years of professional experience as a legislative assistant/correspondent in Congress; opposition research role on a political campaign; support role at a corporation or trade association; or support role in an executive agency.
  • Strong oral, research, writing and client presentation skills.
  • Strong time management skills; ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects, respond in a timely and professional manner to client requests or needs.
  • Demonstrate a team player attitude by being flexible and responsible; be a self-starter.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional while working in a fast-paced environment; intellectual curiosity to expand thinking and approach beyond the obvious and a keen analytical mind and ability to solve problems.
  • Successful completion of Public Strategies’ writing and computer skills tests.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office systems (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Experience with and knowledge of online database systems such as Factiva, Google, Thomas.gov, Leadership Libraries, OpenSecrets.org, Media Map online, Guide Star (nonprofit database).
